Major sessions
Spot forex is quoted around the clock on weekdays. Liquidity usually builds as regional centres open. The four names below are conventions, not exchange bells.
Overlaps
London–New York is the busiest overlap for many EUR, GBP, and USD pairs. Tokyo–London can matter for JPY crosses. Overlap is about participation, not a guaranteed tighter spread.
How a currency pair is written
EUR/USD is euros priced in US dollars. The first code is the base, the second is the quote. A pip is a small step in that quote price. Majors, minors, and exotics are informal buckets, not a regulator list.
Hours and weekends
The market is typically quiet from late Friday New York into Sunday evening. Exact reopen times and bank holidays differ by venue. This page does not publish a live calendar.
