How to place a first XM trade
This page starts after you already have a live XM login. It does not open an account, verify documents, or choose MT4 versus MT5 for you. A first ticket can lose the money you just deposited. Read XM’s risk notice on that path before you send volume.
Confirm you are on a live session
In the terminal, the account number and server should match the live row in the member area — not the demo row. A practice login will fill and close, but it will not move your funded balance.
If you still need an account, use how-to-open-account. If the login fails, use the login guide. This article assumes those steps already succeeded.
Pick one symbol you understand
Open the market watch and choose a pair or contract XM lists for that account. Do not add a symbol you cannot name in plain language. Contract size, session hours, and whether the market is even open are on XM’s specification for that instrument — this page does not invent those figures.
Size the ticket smaller than you think
Volume on the ticket is not “how confident you feel.” A smaller first order is easier to close if the quote moves against you. Stops and limits, if the symbol allows them, belong on the same ticket before you click buy or sell — not after you panic.
Send, then find the position
After the ticket confirms, the position should appear in the trade list of that same terminal. If nothing appears, do not mash the button; check the journal for a reject. Closing is done from that list, not by opening a second opposite ticket unless your account type is built for that.
What a first fill is not
A fill is not a method that works. It is not permission to increase size. It is not a deposit or a withdrawal. If you are still learning the buttons, step back to the demo guide. Live trading can lose money.
Opening, verification, platforms, and funding are separate pages. Use them if any of those steps are still unfinished.
Common questions
Do I open an XM account on this page?
No. Opening is a separate guide. This page is the first live ticket after that path exists.
Should I start on demo or live?
Demo is for buttons. Live uses real funds and can lose them. Do not treat a demo score as a forecast.
Which platform do I use for the first trade?
The one XM assigned to that live login — MT4, MT5, or web. See those guides for attach steps.
Can I undo a fill?
You close or hedge only if the account and symbol allow it. There is no undo that restores the exact quote.
